I suppose most of us are
rather pleased to be able to pick holes in our neighbors’
characters; it is a chance for the Pharisee part of our nature to find
expression. But next time you feel
inclined to do it stop a moment first and remember those words of our Lord:
“Neither do I condemn thee.” We are in
so much hurry to condemn that very often we haven’t time to make quite sure
first that our facts are all right, and even if we find they are, “Neither do I
condemn thee” should make us pause, for surely we have no right to go farther
than did our Lord, and condemn simply because we do not approve. Most of us might, with advantage, do a good deal
less hole-picking [cut off]
