To each of us is vouchsafed at some time of our life, the vision of ourselves as we would wish to be, and as God wants us to be.
It is He who has raised that possibility into our minds, and it should be our earnest endeavor, when we have once received this vision, to make it more and more beautiful, and to live up to it by every act of our daily life.
The power of a noble, uplifting ideal in one’s life is immense: It cannot be measured. It will mould us to all that is beautiful and true; It will make our life supremely satisfying, but we must keep true to that ideal, we must never lower it by thought, word, or action, for if we do we have damaged the highest part of ourselves. Knowing this, how earnestly shall we henceforth take all care that our ideal shall be the most beautiful we can imagine, and that each day we find time to sit still and make that vision more beautiful, laying it at God’s feet that He may bless and purify it. Thus our life will become noble, lovely, true; for we shall ever have beckoning us unto greater heights still, the vision of the bright beautiful selves we shall yet attain to.
