Who Wrote the Bible?

When a child asks that, he is asking much more than he really wants to know, for the full answer to the question would probably fill quite a fat little volume.

To begin with, it is estimated that the writing of the Bible must have covered a period of some 2,200 years.  Most of the writers who took part in it are anonymous, with the exception of Moses, the writers of the New Testament, and the Prophets whose books are called after them.  Again, much of the matter contained in the Old Testament is really a compilation of traditions handed down from father to son.

Whereas the writing of the Old Testament probably extended over two thousand years, the New Testament is thought to have been written within 20 years of A. D. 1.
