It’s easy enough to be merry with lots of money to spend,
It’s easy enough to be
generous, when everyone thinks you a friend;
And when you’ve no need to be
thrifty, it’s easy to cut a dash.
Yet remember this—‘tis a fluky
world, look out if there comes a crash!
For the things you buy with
money are never the things that last,
And the friends you made in
the easeful days won’t stay when those days are past;
So if you are wise you will
fling aside the mere amassing of wealth:
And if you must be a
millionaire, find out your friends by stealth.
